This summer, students from Enka High and North Buncombe High had the incredible opportunity to attend the International Thespian Festival at the University of Indiana, one of the premier events for young performers and theater enthusiasts.
Representing Enka High were Claudia Martinez, Addyson Rogala, and Mira Phillips, all of whom showcased their talents on the international stage.
From North Buncombe High, Kate Parson and Paran Peters joined the festival, further representing Buncombe County Schools’ talented students. Sienna Charlier was also selected to attend, but spent her summer at the prestigious Governor's School.
Each student participated in a range of workshops, performances, and events designed to hone their skills in acting, directing, and technical theater. The talented actors embraced the opportunity to connect with others from around the globe, learning from accomplished professionals and gaining valuable insight into their craft.
“The International Thespian Festival provides students with experiences that reach far beyond high school,” said Arts Educational Specialist Laura Mitchell. “It’s not just about honing their craft in the arts - it’s about building confidence, fostering creativity, and developing skills like collaboration and problem solving that will benefit them in any career path they choose.”
The festival was an unforgettable experience for all students, offering them not only a chance to improve their theatrical skills, but to also create lasting friendships with other Thespians from around the world. Their participation is a testament to the thriving arts programs in BCS.
