History is made everyday, and sometimes it can have a significant impact on our lives. Eighth graders at Cane Creek Middle School researched historical events that have made a difference in society. This project is part of National History Day, which is a competition for middle and high school students. Teachers gave students the opportunity to select their own topic as well as their partner(s). The kids were able to research a topic that tied in with the annual theme Frontiers in History: People, Places, Ideas.
“This project strengthens so many skills across subjects,” said eighth grade ELA and Social Studies teacher Jessica Henry. “We were very impressed with the overall quality of the student work. The groups that made documentaries were especially impressive!”
A few of the different themes included: Air Jordan sneakers, Aviation, Dolly Parton, and the Civil Rights Movement. Ms. Henry said she was impressed with the students’ work and how well they collaborated and showcased their creativity.
