Commissioned an officer through the Naval ROTC program in 1982. 

Naval War College - Masters of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies


My Career Highlights and Certifications: 

Qualified as a Naval helicopter pilot in 1984.  

Initial sea tour with HSL-42 with deployments in USS HALYBURTON (FFG-40) to the North Atlantic and Mediterranean.  Flew Combat Search and Rescue flights in support of strikes on Libya. Qualified SH-60B Helicopter Aircraft Commander in 1987.

Assigned as SH-60B Instructor Pilot with HSL-40, serving as Hostile Environment Training officer and Aviation Tactics Officer.

Assistant Air Operations Officer with Commander Cruiser Destroyer Group Twelve deployed in USS EISENHOWER (CVN-68) to the Arabian Gulf.  Qualifed Fleet Tactical Action Officer and Fleet Tactical Watch Officer.

Served as HSL-42 DET Seven Officer in Charge on USS HUE CITY (CG-66) deploying to the Mediterranean.  Followed on as HSL-42 Operations Officer.

Assigned as Navy Personnel Command HS-HSL Placement Officer and Assistant Aviation Captain Detailer.

Commanded the Warlords of tactical helicopter squadron HSL-51 in Atsugi, Japan, Dec 1999 until May 2001.

Served as USS CONSTELLATION (CV-64) Navigator deploying to the Arabian Gulf in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Qualified Command Duty Officer (Underway).

Assigned to Joint Staff J-8 as Science and Technology Division Lead.

Commanded Oregon State University Naval ROTC as Professor of Naval Science Aug 2006 until Aug 2009.

Served as Naval Forces Europe Liaison Officer to European Command in Stuttgart, Germany before retiring from active duty in June 2012. 

Certified as an NROTC instructor in April 2011 and hired as Senior Naval Science Instructor at North Buncombe High School in July 2012.
