Beginning Visual Art

Welcome to the wonderful world of art!
In this class we’ll cover the basic elements and principles of art, explore a few different mediums and genres, and learn how to utilize different artistic techniques.  You will get to show your knowledge through a combination of hands-on and virtual methods.  The goal is to leave this class with a general understanding of art and an increased confidence in your own artistic abilities!  Art is a learned skill, and you will be expected to practice!  You will primarily be evaluated on the time, effort, and understanding you show me in your work...so don’t worry about coming in with talent!

LMS:  We will do most work in person, but will use Google Classroom for some minor assignments and to turn in photographed work.  I’ll give you a join code on the first day of class.

Materials Needed:  I will provide most of the materials you'll need to use during class.  The rest you’ll need to acquire on your own.  The supply list is posted on our virtual classroom. If you are unable to get something, just email me - I often have extras!

Attendance Policy:

We are back to our regular attendance procedures.  Missed assignments can be found on Google Classroom.  Email attendance notes to nbhs.attendance@bcsemail.org

Grading Categories:

Projects - 25%

Written assignments - 20%

Sketchbook assignments - 20%

Quizzes - 20%

Tests - 15%

Late assignments will be docked 10pts per week, starting the day after they are due.

Extra Credit: opportunities will occur throughout the grading period, and I may consider working with you on an individual basis if you request to work on a larger extra credit assignment.  This opportunity and the amount of credit received will be up to my discretion, but it generally works out in your favor to just make up your missing assignments instead :)

Cheating: Unless I specifically tell you to practice copying something, your artwork (and all other work) needs to be your own.  Don’t copy things from the internet - have fun coming up with your own creations!  Copied work may not be graded, and cheating on a test or quiz will result in a zero and call home.
