Course Overview - AP US Government and Politics
The goal of this class is to provide students with an analytical
perspective on our nation’s government and politics. The course is
structured to place rigorous demands on students that would be
equivalent to college level classes. Therefore, students must master the
important facts, concepts, and theories relating to U.S. Government and
Politics. In turn, they must understand the political institutions,
behaviors, and processes within our nation. The course should also make
students familiar with political parties, political groups and their
behaviors. In addition, there must be an understanding of our political
systems, the strengths and weaknesses, and the liberties, rights, and
responsibilities of the people. The course should also develop critical
reading and writing skills to be used throughout the course and on the
AP exam.
