American History I - Course Overview

American History I is a survey of United States history from the period of European exploration through the period of Reconstruction immediately following the Civil War.  Students in this course will investigate a variety of important topics and events in American History including:  Colonial Differences in America, Causes and Conduct of the American Revolution, the Principles and Founding Documents of American Government, Westward Expansion of the United States, and Causes and Conduct of the Civil War just to name a few.
Students will participate in a number of learning activities including group projects and field trips as well as classwork and homework assignments designed to provide students with a base of knowledge from which they can view events in American History and today with a critical eye.
